ABU DHABI RACING BY PREMA ENJOY SUPERB START TO THE YEAR

THE TEAM, WHICH FEATURED KHALED AND AMNA AL QUBAISI, TRIUMPHED AT THE F3 ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

HAMDA AL QUBAISI PRODUCED AN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY AT THE F4 UAE CHAMPIONSHIP

ABU DHABI: It’s been a fantastic start to 2021 for Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema who secured victory in both the Team and Driver Classifications at the F3 Asian Championship, while also recording a solid performance at the F4 UAE Championship.

The F3 Asian Championship success owed much to the level of consistency displayed throughout the competition by Zhou Guanyou, who overturned a 32-point deficit in the final race weekend of the event to usurp Pinnacle Motorsport’s Pierre-Louis Chovet at the top of the standings.

Both Khaled Al Qubaisi and his daughter, Amna, were also part of the Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema team at the F3 Asian Championship, while Amna’s younger sister, Hamda, produced a solid display during the F4 UAE, with both competitions staged at Yas Marina Circuit and Dubai Autodrome.

Guanyou performed brilliantly over the course of the F3 Asian Championship to ensure the team came out on top in both the Drivers’ and Teams’ classifications, battling at the top of the standings throughout the competition before producing a superb finish during the final race weekend.

While the Chinese driver was excellent throughout, it was Chovet who had led for much of the tournament and looked on course to clinch the Championship. However, the penultimate race of the event proved decisive. Guanyou finished second, behind winner Patrik Pasma, while Chovet was forced out of the race following a collision with Roman Stanek, meaning Guanyou took a one-point lead into the final race.

With the title up for grabs, the stakes couldn’t have been higher, and Guanyou produced a flawless performance - and nerves of steel – as he led from the front, continuing his dominance following the restart after the safety car had been brought out.

It was a brilliant display as he edged out Pasma to seal victory – and the F3 Asian Drivers’ Championship.

Guanyou’s performances also played an instrumental role in ensuring Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema clinched the Teams’ Championship as they eventually finished 134 points clear of closest challengers Evans GP.

Both the F4 UAE and F3 Asian Championships played a big role in the continued evolution of both Hamda and Amna Al Qubaisi, enabling the Emirati sisters to take part in challenging competition, against talented drivers, at a crucial period in their development.

Hamda’s overall performance in the F4 UAE was one of maturity and consistency. She enjoyed plenty of success, winning three races in total over the course of the five rounds of race action. In truth, her final position would have been even more impressive had it not been for five DNF’s (Did Not Finish), three of which were for racing incidents and two due to technical issues with the car.

However, her performances were enough to secure a fourth-place finish in the Drivers’ Championship, while Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema finished third in the Teams’ Classification.

Hamda will now hope to carry her form into the 2021 Italian Formula 4 Championship, where she will compete as part of the Prema Powerteam, while also taking part in selected rounds of the German Championship.

She said: "I’m very excited to join Prema in 2021 for my Formula 4 Italian Championship campaign. I had a great season in the UAE series and look forward to start preparing for the new season in Europe with the team. A big thank you to Abu Dhabi Racing, Strata, Kaspersky and my family for the continuous support!"

It’s been a positive start to the year for Abu Dhabi Racing by Prema, and the future undoubtedly looks bright.
