SECOND ROUND OF YAS RACING SERIES PROVIDES FANTASTIC ENTERTAINMENT WITH THRILLING F3 AND F4UAE ACTION

Joey Alders extended his lead in the F3 Asian Championship

BWT Mücke Motorsport secured their first victories of the 2020 F4UAE Championship

Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, UAE, January 20, 2020: Fans in attendance at the second round of the Yas Racing Series, which included five separate events, enjoyed a fantastic two days of international and local motorsport action.

The first Yas Racing Series event of 2020 took place at Yas Marina Circuit in perfect conditions as the sun shone over the course on both Friday and Saturday with spectators enjoying some top-quality, competitive race events.

In the Formula 3 Asian Championship, BlackArts Racing’s Joey Alders extended his lead in the hunt for the title by winning Race 2 ahead of Ukyo Sasahara, but it was an event which was full of drama as Absolute Racing’s Jamie Chadwick, who had crossed the finishing line in first place, was forced to forfeit what would have been a maiden victory having been adjudged to have made a false start.

In the rest of the weekend’s F3 action, Sasahara triumphed in Race 1, ahead of team-mate Nikita Mazepin, as the Hitech Grand Prix team finished in first and second place. Race 3, meanwhile, was won by Pinnacle Motorsport’s Sebastian Fernandez, who dominated and finished 2.826 seconds ahead of closest challenger, and fellow Pinnacle driver, Jack Doohan.

BWT Mücke Motorsport drivers Erick Zuniga and Nico Göhler secured the German team’s first race wins in the 2020 F4UAE Championship season, as well as the first kart racing victories of their respective careers.

Fifteen-year-old Zuniga, from Mexico, had initially finished third in the second of four F4 UAE races, but with the top two suffering from penalties applied post-race, he was then handed a memorable victory.

Team-mate Gohler was able to enjoy a far more straightforward win in the fourth race, leading from the front and crossing the line ahead of Hamda Al Qubaisi, who recorded two second-place finishes over the course of the weekend.

In the overall standings, Francesco Pizzi leads, with Gohler moving up to second place following his weekend performance. Hamda Al Qubaisi is currently in fifth position.

Along with F3 and F4 UAE action, fans also had the opportunity to watch a couple of Gulf Radical Cup races, in which there were victories for both Edmeades Curtis and Jani Hjerppe. The drivers occupied the top two spots in both races.

The TRD 86 Cup, Yas Marina Circuit’s home-grown, single-make championship, provided plenty of entertainment. In an event where drivers, all behind the wheel of a Toyota GT 86, compete over the course of seven weekends to earn a place on the podium, the race was won by Aaron Mason.

Other race action included Time Attack UAE, while there were plenty of activities taking place around the Circuit for spectators to enjoy on what was a fun-filled weekend in Abu Dhabi.

The third round of Yas Racing Series takes place on 30 January-1 February, with the fourth and final round set for 13-15 February.
